Effect of Fe-Cr-B on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Powder Injection Molding Processed Fe-Cr-B/316L Stainless Steel Matrix Composite

Stainless steel-based composites (SMCs) mixed with 316L stainless steel powder and Fe-Cr-B based M alloys ed M) were manufactured using the injection molding (PIM) process, their microstructure mechanical properties investigated. To examine effect of content on SMCs, fraction was controlled to 30 vol.%, 50 70 vol.%. It observed that PIM-processed Fe-Cr-B/316L SMCs (30 vol.%) had γ-austenite minor α-ferrite as a matrix, (Cr, Fe)2B formed reinforced phase. In tensile tests at room temperature, yield strengths vol.% measured be 519.9 MPa, 574.1 604.8 MPa (peak stress), respectively. From fracture surface observation results, it found deformation behavior changed from intergranular boride between matrix boride, increased. Based above mechanisms novel are also discussed.
